Hello Kitty Fray Quilt

Our local Fabric Store has such a beautiful selection of Fabrics at the moment. I could not resist these beautiful Hello Kitty Prints in Flannel. They were just right for a Rag Quilt Project that I have been meaning to do for such a long time.

So a quick search on Pinterest, and I found this lovely tutorial. Not exactly what I wanted to do, but that's the basic method, and they explain it all very nicely.

I used 7 by 10 rows of 20cm squares to fit a single bed.

A rotary cutter would have been really useful at this point, as 140 squares is a lot to cut out with a pair of scissors, but alas, it's still on my list of things to get.

Next I cut out 70 squares of batting.  They were 17cm, which gave me a seam allowance of 1,5cm on all sides.

Then I Sandwiched them all together, right sides on the outside and batting in the middle. Top stitched them together with an X. Sewed them all together in rows and then sewed the rows together.
I used a tiny zig-zag to seam them together, as it just didn't feel right not zig-zagging a frayed edge.

Snipped all the edges...

...and sent it for a spin in the washing machine.

So its hanging on the line at the moment, and the Fray edges look so much more... Frayed!

Yay, success!

Bookshelf Dollhouse

I have been meaning to do this project for years, but never quite got round to it. I had actually given up the thought of ever doing it, as we had already bought a dollhouse for my little girl's 4th birthday. So when that dollhouse fell apart a week after her birthday, it was the perfect excuse to put this project into motion.

I struck gold and found the perfect bookshelf on Gumtree.

All it took was a few scraps of wallpaper, some scrapbooking paper, fabric and some Modge Podge, and of course the remnants of the old dollhouse.
